UNIT DERMATOLOGY

Background

The Department of Dermatology, Hospital Sultan Ismail Johor Bahru first started its services on 17th July 2008. It was initially operating once a week only, with visiting Dermatology Medical Officer from Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru (HSAJB). Full services 5 times a week began since 1st January 2009.

The Department of Dermatology is located at Level Two, Hospital Sultan Ismail Johor Bahru. Dermatology Daycare procedures are performed in the Dermatological Procedure Room at Level Two. Dermatology in-patient beds are available in the medical wards on Level Three and Level Seven.

Mission

  1. To provide curative and diagnostic services on skin diseases, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and leprosy.
  2. To reduce the incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality of skin diseases, sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy.
  3. To increase patient participation in the management of their condition by health education activities and counseling.
  4. Continuous medical education in Dermatology for medical officers and paramedics.
  5. To participate actively in research in the Dermatology Field.

Client Charter

  • Waiting time for appointment < 2 weeks for new non-urgent cases
  • Waiting time to be seen by doctor < 90 minutes (from appointment time)

  2. We will practice corporate culture values which are caring, teamwork and professionalism in all our work processes.

Organization

  1. The Head of Department and Dermatology Specialist is in-charge of the departmental activities and services provided.
  2. The Dermatologist is in-charge of all patients in the wards, including referral cases.
  3. The dermatologist is in-charge of the clinic sessions.
  4. He/she shall be assisted by medical officers and paramedics.

Services available

  1. Provide outpatient care to all new cases and follow up cases.
  2. Provide total patient care to all skin patients in the ward.
  3. Provision of a 24-hour service for discussion or referral of emergency cases in dermatology, eg. severe adverse cutaneous drug reactions.
  4. Management and surveillance of STDs.
  5. Management and surveillance of leprosy.
  6. Provision of diagnostic services for dermatology and STDs.
  7. Provision of dermatosurgery, eg. cautery and excision biopsies.
  8. Provision of patch testing for contact dermatitis and cryotherapy.
  9. Provision of phototherapy.
  10. Provision of patient education and counseling.

  3. Cryotherapy for warts
  4. Trichloroacetic acid application
  5. Intralesional Triamcilolone acetonide injection for keloids, etc
  6. Phenol prick for molluscum contagiosum
  7. Skin biopsy
  8. Suture removal if necessary
  9. Phototherapy twice a week
  10. Electrocautery
  11. Wet Wraps
  12. Skin scraping / nail clippings for fungal culture
  13. Woods Lamp examination
  14. Patch Test

  1. Only referred cases are accepted. Referrals must be obtained from Medical Officers from government or private clinics / hospitals.
